Tuskegee Airmen's East Coast Chapter to host 35th annual golf classic supporting next generation of aviators

Event set for July 27 at Norbeck Country Club in Rockville, Md.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — In a region where summer scorecards are measured in birdies and bragging rights, one tournament on July 27 will carry a far greater prize than a low round.

The East Coast Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (ECCTAI) will host the General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. 35th Annual Golf Classic at Norbeck Country Club, bringing together golfers, veterans and aviation leaders for a day where competition meets legacy and every swing will help launch the next generation of aviators and aerospace professionals.

Named for Davis, the famed commander of the Tuskegee Airmen and the first Black general officer in U.S. Air Force history, the tournament blends spirited play with a mission that extends well beyond the fairway. Seasoned golfers and first-time players can expect competitive play, premium prizes and a shared purpose that resonates long after the final putt drops.

Proceeds will help fund flight-training and scholarships for young people pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace, ECCTAI officials said.

“Our annual golf classic helps us turn drives into opportunities, ensuring talented young people can take flight regardless of financial barriers,” said H. Thomas “Tommy” Herndon Jr., president of ECCTAI. “The Tuskegee Airmen opened the skies; this tournament keeps them open.”

This year's Golf Classic will also pay tribute to Documented Original Tuskegee Airman Retired Air Force Col. Dean Mohr and his daughter, the late Diane Mohr, a devoted and longtime member of ECCTAI who passed away in 2025. Their contributions — spanning decades of service, sacrifice and dedication — reflect the very spirit that defines ECCTAI.

Col. Mohr earned his wings at Tuskegee Army Air Field during World War II, part of the historic cadre that redefined excellence under adversity. His distinguished Air Force career and his family’s continued service to ECCTAI embody the spirit behind the tournament.
