EAST COAST CHAPTER
TUSKEGEE AIRMEN INC.

PRIDE • POTENTIAL • PROGRESS

We worked with Howard Baugh and Tidewater Chapters to have the Fourth Thursday in March each year recognized as Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day in the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.  This day honors the more than 15,000 men and women involved in the so-called "Tuskegee Experience," in which the Army Air Corps trained African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft.  Pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, all the personnel who kept the planes in the air are all Tuskegee Airmen.  The Tuskegee Airman Commemoration Day was adopted in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia in 2019, and the Governor of the State of Maryland issued a Proclamation March 28th, 2019.  We are still working with Maryland to solidify the annual day.

  • We will honor the occasion in March 2021 (details to be determined):

Greetings ECCTAI Members and Friends, today is the 26th of March. Unfortunately we have had to cancel this year’s Tuskegee Airman Commemoration Day Wreath Laying Ceremony and other activities across the country, but we want to maintain the special significance of the 4th Thursday in March this year and all 4th Thursday’s in March in all years following as Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day. Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day is a day that we have chosen and some states have formally signed resolutions to recognize all Tuskegee Airmen currently living and those that have gone off to join the Lonely Eagle Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. We want all to reflect on the accomplishments of Tuskegee Airmen in your own special way but think about these couple of items. One - at the hours of 1941 (7:41pm) and then at 1949 (7:49pm) we want you all to take a pause and remember Tuskegee Airmen. Two - between the hours of 1941 and 1949 take eight (8) minutes and talk about Tuskegee Airmen that you knew or Tuskegee Airmen facts that you know with family and friends especially our young people. I want to say thank you and we look forward to the 2021 Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day Activities.

Resolutions:
